My Mom Joyce Johnston Barnes

Joyce Johnston Barnes 7/7/1942 ~ 4/9/2007 Life is not measured by the dates of birth or death, rather it is the dash in between. Our mother lived a life full of sacrifice. She is survived by six children and their spouses, Theresa Elnes (Ralph), Debbie Cameron Brown (Patrick), David Barnes, Brad Barnes, Patricia Clark, Richard Barnes (Lisa). She has 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, all of whom she cherished and who cherished her. She was met in glory by her parents, brother and her grandson Holden. What joy we feel that she no longer suffers; rather now she has immense peace. Mom thank you and you will be missed. Visitation will be held Sat, April 14th, 2007 at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell, 372 E. 1st So, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.

Sorry for your loss Barnes family. I worked for State Farm for a few years and I worked with her very closely and got to know her quite well. All though she and I never met in person we talked all of the time, and it just wasnt about insurance it was about life and the love she had for her kids. She was a really nice lady with a kind heart and I was sad to hear that she passed.

Mom,
I am trying to keep on going. But it is difficult.I'm not sure that I can do it.I don't wear boots. And I really don't like cowboys.Cowgirls are cool though.I am trying to hook up summer semester, but my financial aid is out.And now that I have to find a home for Dogg,Tex,and Squack I just don't know if I can do it.I am trying to find a way.Trying hard.I really miss you and there isn't a day that I don't cry thinking about how I should of done things different.Too late for that now.All I can do is trust in the lord. And I don't trust ANYBODY.I guess I better learn too quickly.
I Love You,I miss you

I worked with Joyce at Alpine Access on the ASAP program. I am very sorry to hear of her passing and we will all miss her funny remarks and comments in our chat room. I never met her personally, but I could tell she was a great person and had a great love for her family as she spoke of you all often. May God bless you all during this time and bring you all the comfort and peace you need as you have truly lost something that can never be replaced---just remembered.

I dont know why they didnt print yesterdays, i said i wouldnt sign this in public again, but i just couldnt help it. i see things, or hear them and want to tell you about it so bad, all those times we sat at your little table talking, i am so lonely for you. without you and monique i dont know what i will do. i cry all of the time. all of the time and i cant stop, it just comes from no where. who will i talk to now? god i miss you so much. i know you would tell me, "my mother said you have to just pull yourself up by the boot straps and go on!" but what happens when those boot straps are broken? what happens when you realize the only thing you had that mean anything to you is gone. i know i have to go on, and i will, and i will find a way to hold my family a little tighter and tell them all the stories you told me. i dont see you old and sick, sad, i see that young girl, that nerdy young girl, jumping up onto the back of her horse, the older lady laughing about how offensive some people would take that picture of you making a drink, god you were annoying and the greatest all at the same time. i can only pray one person in this world will love me, miss me, as much as i miss you. i will always hold you close. you were more then my mother, you were my best friend. i love you.

Dear Joyce
You will never know how much you meant to me and my family. You were one of the greatest people I had ever known. Thank you for all the love and wisdom that you passed on to me I will never forget you you were a huge part of my life and it was a honor to get to know and my pleasure to help you through the last two years of your life I'm sorry I couldn't do do more for your pain and suffering. And all of the stress you went through in your life. I tried to make it as easy on you as possible. You will never be far from my thoughts and don't worry, I will take care of your son and grandchildren. I will always love you, forever. Be at peace my dear kindred spirit, you have earned your rest. You were more than just a mother-in-law, you were a dear friend and I will always cherish the many gifts and compliments you graced me with.
All my love Lisa

Mom,

I miss you so tonight. I hope you were able to be a part of your service and that you are okay with the small service we held in yor honour. It was also nice to have dinner out with family afterwards. I worry about David, and Richard of course. I know this is bound to help them grow. I am confused if your with Dad, Larry or whom over there. Non the less, I hope your spending time taking it easy and enjoying your grandson Holden. I miss you though, and I love you.

my dearest mother,
there was not a day that went by that we did not speak. not a week that went by that we didnt go out to breakfast and/or lunch at least 3 or 4 times. the last ten years you have been so much more my friend then my mother. but i never let go of the site of who you were and how much you meant to me. i loved you for who you were and not ever did i worry about who you werent. a life time of change and hard work, of taking for granted what we wouldnt be able to even understand. what changes you saw through the years, but one thing never changed in all of that time, your love for your family and your desire for us to all be together. I was proud of you as my mother, and more proud to be considered your friend. Our visits and our phone calls will be missed dearly, leaving an empty hole that no one will ever be able to fill. I am happy your passing was as peaceful as it was, i only wish i could have been by your side. no more fear for you, no more worry. you have reached your just rewards and i for one will celebrate the life of a women well loved, of a friendship that can never be replaced. i rejoice in what was and in the knowledge of seeing you again. say hi to all and give monique a good talkng to, until we meet again, i hold you dear.

Mom,

I love you and I miss you terribly. I want to be unselfish but I also want to keep you close.

I hope that on your journey you can find some kindness and joy. I hope that you will have love and respect. I pray that you will know peace.

My thanks for your parenting. My thanks for your sacrifices. My apologies for taking even one minute for granted.

It means a great deal to me that we were able to have the last couple of years as close as we did. I will be forever grateful for that time. You will be forever remembered in my heart.

Mom,

I can't believe that your gone. What am I going to do without you? Did you know you would soon be leaving? Is that why you said you wanted to call and leave a voice mail message saying you loved me? I miss you so much, even though I know it is selfish of me to wish you back, I do. I had no idea you would be an organ donor, and I am so proud of you for that request, but I feel just sick about what you went through before and after death. Mom were you afraid? Was your Mom and Holden there? Maybe Larry or Dad? I do not know what to expect for me, but for you I pray your resting now. I too believe that the heart goes on. It will forever live in the love you gave. I just miss you so. I just wish I could talk to you at least once more. I am so sorry for any time I let you down. I know there were times you were so disappointed in me. I hope that as I have aged, and been better equipped to show my respect, that you realized I loved you all along. I miss you so and I know I always will. Debbie

Oh MOM,
I am so sorry that I wasn't a better son.I am so sorry that I caused you so much heartache and pain.
I tried to make it up too you,but it was impossible to do.
But I hope and pray that you know that I love you and I always will. I hope that you know that I already miss you,and that somehow, someway I can't help but keep looking for you downstairs.I don't know how I am going to survive without you in my life. But I promise to try.No matter what.
You and I haven't always seen eye to eye or got along very well. But I have never ever, ever loved anyone, anywhere like I have loved you.And continue to love you.I will always wish that we could of got along better. But we are/were to much alike.I have always been a momma's boy.
I will do the best that I can with TEX. And as you asked,I will always be the best brother that I can to RICHARD.
I miss you MOM.
Goodbye.

Joyce was a friendly and thoughtful person. She was a hard worker, and had strong feelings about how things should be. She always spoke so highly of all in her family and how much they meant to her. She was so proud of each one, and was so thankful her family was always close by and attentive. Joyce did much for her community and those around her, she made her mark in this world. She deserves peace now, I was glad to have known her.

Mom,
How do you possibly say goodbye to one who has been your rock for 44 years. I already miss you so. I want to pick up the phone to see if you’re resting, or if there is anything you need. I want so bad to send you a copy of your obit, and your program to see if you approve. I know how sick you have been, and how much pain you have suffered through, and I knew I would not have you forever, but this still came as an utterly shocking experience and I was not yet ready to say goodbye. None of us are. We are all struggling with our loss. To think that in your life time, which has never been easy, that you have had 6 kids, raised them basically alone, and never faltered in your love or your ability to be there for them. The debt I owed you was never repaid, how could it have been? I think you know I love you, but I do not think you know of the depth of my love and respect for you. Had I been able to take away the years of heartache or struggles, I would have. Now there is no more pain. I have hoped you’re in some spa type setting being pampered, no pain, and back to when you were most beautiful, and in good shape, and I hope you are enjoying the peace and serenity that heaven must provide. I am ecstatic that you are again with the women you loved the most, your own mom, and that Holden and all the others you have loved are providing you with so much love and peace. Enjoy Mom, you have earned it. We will somehow find a way to cope. I know also, we will still be a family, bonded by one most valuable of things, a mother’s love. Mom I miss you. I love you completely. I am not going to say goodbye, rather I will see you again, and I can't wait for that reunion. In the meantime, if you could send me a few dimes so I know you made it and are okay. I love you Mom.
